When I was 10 years old, I spent my afternoons in my parents’ bakery, covered in flour and sneaking extra frosting onto cupcakes when no one was looking. My dad always taught me not to see business owners as competition, but see them as peers, neighbors. He befriended all the bakeries in our town, we always exchanged and borrowed from our bakery neighbors and shared our stock too. He said, “you never know when you are going to need them.” I live by that mantra today in the photography industry.
Little did I know, years later, I’d be capturing those same joyful moments—but this time, with a camera instead of a piping bag. Although sometimes, I do bake the Cake Smash cakes you see on my site.
An outfit I designed and created for little Isla.
Cake Smash photography brings together two of my greatest passions: baking and working with children. There’s something magical about watching a one year old experience cake for the first time—the hesitation, the curiosity, and then the full-on, giggling, frosting-covered face.
When you work with me, parents - we decide on a theme together! Typically, you share the color scheme or theme, I then take your theme and get to work on the creative set up. I create everything from baking most of the cakes myself to even designing and creating your child’s outfit.
I always tell parents: Don’t stress the mess—embrace it. The best cake smash photos come from letting your baby explore at their own pace. And if they need a little encouragement? Well, I’ve been known to sneak a little frosting onto their fingers, just like I did in my parents' bakery all those years ago.
